No, it's better! The Movie Network has more movies than HBO; in fact, The Movie Network has three times the number of movies than HBO. The Movie Network has deals with most of the major studios while in the U.S., the studios are split between HBO, Starz, and Showtime. You'd have to subscribe to all three networks (at three times the cost of The Movie Network) to get the same selection of movies that M offers. AND, The Movie Network airs the best of HBO and Showtime's original programming and has even dedicated Sunday Nights to HBO Programming with encore presentation of The Best of HBO only on M, Tuesday evenings. So make sure you catch HBO on M every Tuesday night with great shows like The Sopranos, Deadwood, Entourage, and many more.

What is The Movie Network HDTV?
The Movie Network HDTV is The Movie Network in High Definition! High Definition is superior picture quality. HDTV movies are shown in 16 by 9 wide screen format, larger than can be seen on conventional television. Television images are measured in lines of resolution. Where a traditional television set has 525 lines of resolution, HD televisions have 1080 lines resulting in superior picture quality. HDTV requires a HD ready television set, and a HD decoder from your service provider.
Does The Movie Network carry movies in HDTV format?
At this time we guarantee at least one (sometimes more) movies a month in HDTV format. This is a new technology that The Movie Network has invested in and we are in the process of integrating it onto our Network. As each month goes by our inventory of HD titles will continue to grow. We are also awaiting full participation from studios and distributors to allow us to bring more of these features onto the network. There is no extra cost to the subscriber for this feature, although as indicated above it does acquire an HDTV and HD decoder.
What is The Movie Network Dolby Digital 5.1?
Dolby Digital 5.1 is a recent technological ad vance in surround sound. The 5.1 stands for 5 plus 1 channels for sound: Left, Center, Right, Rear Left, and Rear Right, plus a bass effects channel. In order to receive 5.1 sound, your service provider must be able to provide it, and you must also have a home system that can support it.
Does The Movie Network carry movies in Dolby Digital 5.1?
The Movie Network does carry movies in Dolby Digital 5.1. Not all of our movies are in DD 5.1 but we are working with the studios to receive as many movies in this format as possible as not all studios are capable of producing movies in DD 5.1 for television broadcast. Since The Movie Network is the first in Canada to be broadcasting in DD 5.1, our library is continuing to expand.
What is the difference between Widescreen and Full Frame?
Widescreen movies are presented in the original aspect ratios of their theatrical presentations. This means you get the full picture as the director and cinematographer intended. When movies are transferred to home video or broadcast on television, they often go through a process known as cropping, or panning and scanning. This process takes the theatrical image and formats it to fit your television screen. As a result, the composition often cuts out picture information such as background details-or even whole characters-from a given scene.
Benefits of Widescreen
The entire original picture is seen. The movie is identical to the way it looked in the theatre. The director's vision is retained. There are no extra cuts or missing characters or scenery.
Benefits of Full Frame
Fills the television screen and doesn't draw attention to itself. On small television monitors, actors' faces and scene details are as large and readable as possible.
Why don't you show more movies in Widescreen?
Not all of the studios and distributors make their movies available to The Movie Network in widescreen. We are purchasing more and more movies in wide screen as they become available.
What is Viewer's Pick on Mpix?
Every month a movie requested by one of our subscribers is selected as the Viewer's Pick and added to the programming schedule. That viewer will have their name printed in Movie Entertainment Magazine, as well as On Air, and will also receive an Mpix prize pack!
